Demolition drive: Houses that have been broken down in Krishna Nagar Rasoolpura to make way for government’s 2BHK housing project.

Some 15 families in Krishna Nagar Rasoolpura are accusing the State of arm-twisting them to vacate the area to make way for 2-BHK houses under the government’s housing scheme.

They claim the supply to common water taps adjacent to their houses was shut on Friday because they had refused to agree to vacate their houses and have also been threatened with disconnection of power supply. The State government has demolished most structures in Kattamaisama Basthi but opposition from the remaining families has not made the entire earmarked stretch of land available.

“The State has not given us necessary assurance and all families are not being treated in a fair manner,” said B. Suresh Babu, one of the residents.

No clarity

At the heart of the issue is that of compensation in return for giving up their homes and the land, to which they claim to have pattas.

Alleging that local politicians were pushing them to handover their houses, the members of families said the government officials who have surveyed the land have not explained the rationale behind the allotment of houses.

They claimed the number of houses being allotted to a family was arbitrary. Over 150 houses are slotted for construction in the area.

“We have asked from the government rental compensation to accommodate us while our homes are demolished and flats built. That apart, we have also asked for possession certificates as only then can we completely trust the government,” T. Nagender said.

‘No complaints’

Mohammed Fakruddin, another resident who has refused to give up his house, said the opposing families have decided to stay put and would rather construct their own homes in the future without having to do anything with the State government.

Meanwhile, Secunderabad Cantonment Board Chief Executive Officer S.V.R Chandrashekar said no instructions were issued to disconnect water supply nor was any complaint of disconnection received from the area. He said the complaint would be evaluated.
