Munugode MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy’s ‘tryst with Congress’ looked confused even as he claimed to be continuing in the party while reiterating his conviction that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is the only alternative to the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) in the State.
His statements confused the Congress members and the media men, on the first day of the Assembly on Thursday. Mr. Reddy did not look comfortable in the presence of Congress MLAs and was seen moving with the reporters rather than joining the Congress team in the sessions.
He did not wear the black scarf which other members wore to register their protest against the ‘merger’ of CLP. When he was in the House for sometime, he did not leave along with the Congress MLAs after Mr. Bhatti Vikramarka announced walkout protesting against his mike getting disconnected.
Reporters grilled him over his status as the Congress MLA given his outburst against the party and subsequent announcement that he is planning to join the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP). Mr. Reddy explained that he is a Congress member and his dissent was only against the TPCC leadership, which he thought should change after the party’s debacle in the Assembly elections.
On his earlier decision to join the BJP, he said the announcement was casually made after some party workers expressed their dissatisfaction over the way the Congress is shaping in Telangana. He, however, firmly believed that BJP is the only alternative to TRS in the next elections.
