Scattered heavy and very heavy rainfall in parts of the city during rush hour turned the roads into a chaotic mess with traffic snarls and power breakdowns in many areas.

The Begumpet weather observatory recorded 2.2 mm of rainfall till 5.30 p.m. Uppal recorded 71.8 mm, Bahadurpura 20.8 mm while Begumpet recorded 2.5 mm till 7 p.m. on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, in the posh Banjara Hills area, traffic was reduced to a crawl as school buses, children walking with umbrellas, and cars were gridlocked as it began to rain just after final bell at various schools in the area.

Traffic slowdown and disruption were reported from Bowenpally, Attapur, Uppal, HiTec City, L.B. Nagar, Rajendranagar and other areas of the city.

“Generally, there will be cloudy sky. A few spells of rain or thundershowers are likely in parts of the city,” said an official of weather observatory in Hyderabad on Thursday.
