Calling the ensuing Assembly polls as a fight between “common people” and the “feudal forces”, newly appointed Telangana Congress campaign committee chairman Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka has said “ordinary people” will emerge triumphant over the “feudal lords” at the coming hustings.

“The victory will mark the end of the autocratic TRS regime paving the way for a people’s government in the State,” he said, adding that the Congress will implement the “people’s agenda” and strive to uphold self-respect of downtrodden sections and usher in social justice, the main objectives for which Telangana State was formed by the Congress-led UPA government under the aegis of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in 2014.

Talking to reporters here on Friday, Mr. Vikramarka slammed the TRS dispensation for allegedly making brazen attack on the self-respect of underprivileged sections and attempting to stifle the voices of farmers, unemployed youth, Opposition parties and democratic forces during its more than four years rule.

‘Stifling dissent’

“The instances of caning of students on Osmania University campus during protests for jobs, the physical torture of persons belonging to weaker sections at Nerella in Rajanna-Sircilla district for exposing the sand mafia activities, and handcuffing of a group of tribal farmers for seeking fair price to their agriculture produce in Khammam speaks volumes about the tyrannical rule,” he alleged.

He further alleged that the TRS regime in the name of redesigning of irrigation projects posed a backbreaking burden on the State exchequer without rendering any concrete benefit to the farmers.

Mr. Vikramarka thanked Congress president Rahul Gandhi for assigning the crucial task of leading the party’s campaign committee for the coming Assembly polls.

Team spirit

We will take the suggestions of senior party leaders and formulate an action plant to carry forward the party’s election campaign with team spirit, he said, adding that the campaign strategy will be devised soon to expose the “misrule” of the TRS and unveil the Congress party’s road map for the welfare of all sections and comprehensive development of the State.
