Property tax notices: GHMC staff cautioned

November 05, 2011 10:50 am | Updated 10:50 am IST - HYDERABAD:

GHMC Commissioner M.T. Krishna Babu cautioned the finance wing and staff of other departments to be doubly sure about the building status before issuing any special notices for collecting property tax.

Deputy Commissioners should personally handle the 100 per cent verification exercise on buildings where there have been complaints of excess tax amounts being levied in the guise of illegal constructions in the next 15 days. Random checking should be done by moving with the bill collectors and tax inspectors.

Meanwhile, the municipal corporation will also be initiating the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) exercise to ascertain status of people below the poverty line later this month from November 17 to December 31. The last such census was taken up in 1931. Special Commissioner Navin Mittal informed that the masters training will be held on November 8 and 9 at the CMTC, Banjara Hills, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Mr. Mittal advised Zonal Commissioners and DCs to establish grievances cell-cum-control room at circle offices while zonal offices are to be constituted with grievance registers, a press release said.

Closure of beef shops

The GHMC has ordered the closure of modern abattoir at Chengicherla (beef section) and the retail beef shops November 7 and 8 on account of Bakrid.
