President reaches Hyderabad on southern sojourn

President Pranab Mukherjee arrived here on Monday afternoon on a 10-day southern sojourn. Mr. Mukherjee was accorded warm welcome by Andhra Pradesh and Telangana Governor E.S.L. Narasimhan and Telangana Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at the Indian Air Force Station Hakimpet, where the special Indian Air Force plane landed amid tight security.

The President after alighting from the aircraft was driven down to the specially erected pandal, where he was greeted by Telangana Legislative Council Chairman K. Swamy Goud, Assembly Speaker S. Madhusudhana Chary, Deputy Speaker Padma Devender Reddy, Deputy Chairman Nethi Vidyasagar, Deputy Chief Ministers K. Srihari and Mohammad Mahbub Ali, Telangana cabinet ministers and officials.

Telangana Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma, Director General of Police Anurag Sharma and other senior officials along with top officers of the armed forces were present.

Mr. Mukherjee will be in Hyderabad till July 8. According to his itinerary, the President will receive the first copy of the book ‘Uniki’ written by Maharashtra Governor Ch.Vidyasagar Rao at the Hyderabad International Convention Centre.

He will also inaugurate a ‘Nakshatra vatika’ at Rashtrapati Nilayam in Bolarum on July 6.
