State award for Vithal Rao Sivpurkar

Vithal Rao Sivpurkar, the renowned Ghazal maestro who was missing and later was found dead on Friday, was given the Telangana State government award posthumously on Saturday.

Government’s Cultural and Media Advisor K.V. Ramanachary visited Vithal Rao’s home and handed over the cash award of Rs. 1 lakh to his wife. Though the musician was to receive the award from Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao on the anniversary of the State formation on June 2, his whereabouts remained unknown to officials.

He had already gone missing and could not be traced by the family.

He was eventually found by the police at Begumpet and admitted in Gandhi Hospital where he breathed his last.
