Possible move to invoke Section 8: TRS, others react strongly

Harish Rao warns of taking up a movement at national level, says Naidu continuing excesses on Telangana people

June 24, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Various sections of Telangana including Ministers, legislators, journalists, employees and other organisations have reacted strongly to the reported plans of the Centre to invoke Section 8 of the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, as widely reported in the media, and hand over powers on the common capital to the Governor.

Speaking in Medak district on Tuesday, Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao warned of taking up a movement at national level if Section 8 was imposed on Telangana. He accused the AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu of exerting pressure on the Centre to invoke Section 8 to continue their exploitation and excesses on Telangana people.

Secretary general of TRS and MP K. Keshava Rao said there was no information from the Centre on invoking Section 8 as it was unwarranted since law and order in the common capital was very much normal.

Chairman of Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) Prof. M. Kodandaram said the attempts of Seemandhra leaders to continue their rein on Telangana or Hyderabad would not be tolerated at any cost. “The purview of Section 8 is very limited”, he noted.

Minister for Commercial Taxes Talasani Srinivas Yadav said here on Tuesday that Hyderabad presented no case for implementation of Section 8 as there had been no instance of breach of law and order. Criticising the TDP leadership for making an issue out of nothing, Minister for Roads & Buildings Tummala Nageswara Rao said it was resorting to blunders repeatedly and losing their face in Telangana.

“Telangana will not lose anything with the imposition of Section 8,” he felt.

Legislators of TRS V. Srinivas Goud, Karne Prabhakar and A. Jeevan Reddy said Telangana would erupt into protests if Section 8 was implemented. Political analysts Mallepalli Laxmaiah and V. Prakash said there was no provocation for imposing Section 8 and alleged that the leaders of Seemandhra had no respect for law.
