An additional sub-inspector of police, a Transco contractor and three of his workers were injured on Wednesday, when villagers of Karnanguda in Guda Mamda gram panchayat in Jainoor mandal pelted stones at them, assuming they were child kidnappers.

Contractor N.V.V. Prasad and his workers were surveying the area for laying electric poles when the incident took place at around noon. The Additional SI was from Jainoor police station in Kumram Bheem Asifabad district

The villagers apparently found their movements to be suspicious and started attacking them. The contractor got minor head injury and managed to call the police. In response to the SOS, Addl. SI Narsaiah rushed to the spot, but he too faced a volley of stones. He received simple injuries on his hand. A police jeep arrived soon after, taking matters into control. Mr. Narasaiah was shifted to Utnoor hospital, while the contractor and his workers were being treated at Jainoor primary health centre. False news shared on social media platforms about child kidnappers and cannibals has sparked a frenzy across the State.
