Rachakonda police are still trying to trace a third-year B.Pharm student, who was abducted by an imposter last week.

With the investigation making no headway, police on Sunday announced a reward of ₹1 lakh for information about the abductor, Ravi Shekhar, from Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh who posed as a doctor at Osmania General Hospital and promised her a job.

Speaking to The Hindu, L.B. Nagar DCP Sunpreet Singh said special teams have been formed to trace the 21-year-old. The offence took place in Hayathnagar around 8 p.m. on July 23.

Investigators said the accused is a ‘most wanted’ criminal in the Andhra Pradesh Capital Region, and was previously involved in similar offences. “The accused lures the woman with promise of a good job with high salary and sexually exploits them,” an officer associated with the investigation said, adding that earlier he had cheated and sexually assaulted several women from AP and Telangana.

Asked if he had links with human traffickers, the officer said: “Going by his criminal record, we don’t think he has such links and we are concerned about the safety of the girl.”

On Monday, AP DGP Gautam Sawang told mediapersons that they were helping their Telangana counterparts after the latter sought help in the case.

It is learnt Ravi Shekhar is involved in over 25 cases in AP and a few in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. “He had escaped from police custody while being shifted to prison and since then, he is absconding,” the officer said.
