Police bust fake seed racket, 13 arrested

The Ramagundam Police Commissioner’s Task Force on Tuesday night busted an inter-district fake seed racket and arrested 13 involved in sale and purchase of the spurious seeds.

In a raid conducted at Bellampally Government College in Mancherial district, the police seized 350 kg of loose spurious seeds and 650 packets of 450 gms each of spurious seeds, valued at ₹ 12.5 lakh, besides 4 cars, an auto, 19 mobile phone instruments, a cheque for ₹ 1.10 lakh and ₹2.53 lakh.

Producing the accused, led by Moola Harish of Manakondur in Karimnagar district, at a press conference, Bellampally ACP Balu Jadhav said the task force team led by ACP Vijay Sarathi raided the college at about 8 p.m. on Tuesday.

The police team found the contraband kept ready to be sold to a fertiliser and seeds shop belonging to one Kothapalli Srinivas, he added.
