Parties yet to name MLC candidates

May 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:04 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Major political parties are still playing hide and seek with the aspirants for six vacant MLC seats in the MLAs’ quota in the Telangana Legislative Council even as only two days time is left for filing of nomination papers.

The ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) which appeared resolved in fielding a fifth candidate, toned down its voice on the issue on Tuesday with a party senior stating that the leadership was undecided yet and still thinking on pros and cons of contesting the fifth seat. “Initially, there were indications from the party leadership to go for the fifth seat, but it appears softened now,” the party leader considered close to powers that be stated.

“We can go for the fifth seat with the arithmetic support we have from other parties, but it is for the party leadership to take a decision,” the sources said and stated that the candidature of Ministers Kadiam Srihari and Tummala Nageswara Rao, the former being a sitting MP from Warangal, have already been finalised by the leadership. However, there was no clarity yet on the remaining two seats. The names of Nethi Vidayasagar, former Deputy Chairman of the Council, who joined TRS from Congress, and B. Venkateswarlu, who joined the ruling party from TDP, are being considered front-runners for the remaining two seats assured to TRS. Some other names including the TRS office functionary Srinivas Reddy, party leaders Peddi Sudarshan Reddy, Errolla Srinivas and former Minister K. Harishwar Reddy were also being examined by the leadership.
