ORR has turned into a disadvantage, says Kiran

February 10, 2012 11:16 am | Updated 11:16 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The ambitious Outer Ring Road (ORR) project started with Rs. 6,800 crore investment for developing the 158 km-long “red signal free road” is turning out to be a disadvantage.

Several advantages like providing hassle-free commuting to the industry, which is hard pressed to meet timelines, notwithstanding, the ORR is posing problems with frequent accidents claiming the lives of youth, Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy admitted. “We have to address this concern first,” he told participants of BioAsia 2012 which commenced here on Thursday.

The Chief Minister was responding to a request from Bharat Biotech chairman Krishna Ella for expediting the completion of Shameerpet-Patancheru stretch of the ORR and four-laning of the Hyderabad-Karimnagar highway for faster movement of vehicles. “The advantage of having a one of its kind ORR is becoming a disadvantage in itself,” Mr. Kiran Reddy said.

He recalled how the youngsters were using the track as racing ground with their bikes and losing their lives in accidents.

“We cannot allow our youth to lose their valuable lives and I should address this concern first,” he said.
