Organ donors felicitated

Their immense contribution to saving the lives of patients desperate for a lease of life was recognised. The State-run Jeevandan organ donation scheme felicitated the families of 27 organ donors at a programme organised at Nizam’s Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here on Saturday.

Principal Secretary (Health, Medical and Family Welfare) Suresh Chanda expressed his gratitude to the families for donating organs of their loved ones after they were declared brain-dead. He later presented the families with awards, which consisted of mementos.

Director of Medical Education (DME) Putta Srinivas honoured the donor families by giving away certificates. “The organs distributed have been allocated to needy patients as per the allocation guidelines,” he said.

NIMS Director L. Narendranath, Jeevandan in-charge Swarnalatha and a large number of relatives of the deceased were present.

Organs of 13-year-old donated

The parents of 13-year-old Kasyap Madiraju, who was declared brain-dead after being fatally injured in a fall, have donated his organs to needy patients under Jeevandan. A Bachupally resident, Kasyap fell down from a height of 15 feet while playing cricket on May 3, and was immediately shifted to a local hospital. He was declared brain-dead on May 6. His father Krishna Prasad, decided to donate organs, which included both kidneys, liver, two heart valves and two corneas.
