Officials told to repair road from High Court to City College

July 31, 2012 10:05 am | Updated 10:05 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The GHMC Commissioner, M.T. Krishna Babu, called for immediate recarpeting and repair of the road leading from the A.P. High Court to the City College. Shocked at the bad condition of the road and with drainwater overflowing, he said the thoroughfare used by many citizens has to be kept in a better shape.

Accompanied by corporator M.A.Gaffar, public representatives and his own senior officials, the Commissioner visited several places in and around Jahanuma of the old city, including Doodh Bowli, Bilal Nagar, Amjadullah Bagh, Kalapather, Phool Bagh, ‘Chunni ka Bhatti’, etc. on Monday.

Mr. Krishna Babu made his displeasure open about the functioning of the executive engineers concerned to Chief Engineer K. Suresh as residents poured out their grievances in every place about the inundation problems.

He wanted officials to coordinate with the local corporators in solving complaints. Several monsoon related works were in different stages of completion, he said.

Later at a meeting held with the Health & Sanitation wing in the head office, the Commissioner has warned of disciplinary action against the Assistant Medical Officers of health if they failed to distribute salaries to the sanitation groups involved in road sweeping by 10 of every month, according to an official spokesman.

Private sanitary supervisors should be seen wearing uniform, apron or a jacket for identification on the roads. It was better to dispense with their services if they are not on the field, he said.

It was also necessary to provide brooms with longer sticks in the core area as was being done in the suburbs to the workers to protect their backs. Such small interventions go a long way in assuaging the workers, he said.

Additional Commissioner (H&S) L. Vandan Kumar was directed to hold a meeting with clay Ganesh idol-makers and with non-governmental organisations to control pollutants from passing into Hussainsagar and other lakes.

The Commissioner also felicitated medical official T. Balraj on the eve of attaining superannuation.
