Apart from retaining its focus on exports, Japanese car maker Nissan’s Indian arm is pursuing multi-pronged plans for a bigger share of the pie in the domestic market, by launching new products and variants besides expansion of the dealer network.

“Export driven strategy will be there… for India, we have ambitious plans,” ,” declared Arun Malhotra, Managing Director, Nissan Motor India, on Monday. Though it is a late entrant in the [domestic] market, Nissan expects its sales to see pick up in the coming years.

After inaugurating a new dealership — Vibrant Nissan at Gachibowli — here, he said cumulative exports raced past the five lakh unit-mark recently. Exports helped improve utilisation of the 4.8 lakh unit factory capacity. In domestic market, Nissan was eyeing a five per cent market share over the next five years. “We are examining each and every segment,” he said, adding the launches scheduled this year included the entry-level Datsun car.

Nissan will also ramp up the number of touch-points to 300 by next year from 194 outlets now.
