New deadline for compost units

Failing to evoke any response to its repeated deadlines to bulk garbage generators (BGGs) for establishment of in-house compost units, the GHMC has refreshed its deadline to November 15 for the same.

To aid the BGGs towards selection of composting equipment, exhibitions of the ‘Organic Waste Composting machines’ (OWCs) are being organised at two locations in the city from November 2 to 5.

The exhibitions will take place at Brahma Kumaris-- Shanti Sarovar in Gachibowli on November 2 and 3 between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m., and at Devaki Convention Hall, Arunodaya Nagar, Nagole-Bandlaguda Road on November 5 during the same hours, a press statement from GHMC said.

As per the Solid Waste management Rules, 2016 and protocol for Star Rating of Garbage free cities, all the BGGs producing an average of 100 kg of waste per day must install composting machines in their premises to process the wet waste.

Accordingly, GHMC has recognised, served notices and gave paper notifications insisting on on-site compost machines in their premises. In case any BGG fails to implement the same within specified period of time, GHMC will enforce and take necessary action against them without any prior intimation, the statement warned.
