“There is a need to set up a Telangana State Sports University for a scientific approach towards promotion and excellence in sports in the new State,” observed Lav Agarwal, the Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of the Sports Authority of Telangana, at a review meeting on Friday.
The Secretary also directed the officials to prepare the budget keeping in view the needs of the sports fraternity and also the ‘Bangaru Sports Telangana’ policy. Proposals for construction of hostel buildings at the Central University SAT shooting ranges, procurement of weapons and ammunition are to be speeded up.
“Greater emphasis is needed to purchase competition boats to improve water sports activities. Efforts should be made to get maximum benefits from the Government of India schemes such as the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Abhiyan (RGKA) to reach out to the talent in villages and mandals to realise the dreams of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhara Rao,” said Mr. Agarwal.
Budget allocationsThe budgetary proposals will also have sufficient allocations for engaging coaches, support staff, cash incentives, association grants, tournament grants, sports equipment grant, infrastructure, sports academies, etc. “The Chief Minister wants Telangana to become a sports hub for the entire country,” he added.
