Free high-speed wi-fi facility is available to the rail users across all the 71 railway stations under Nanded division.

Nanded division has become a pioneer in the ‘Digital India’ programme with the provision of free high-speed wi-fi facility to the rail users across all the 71 railway stations. Wi-fi is offered as a free utility service under the brand name ‘RailWire’ to millions of commuters who travel through stations every day.

Along with eight ‘A’ and ‘B’ category railway stations, 63 railway stations with rural background have been also provided with the high-speed public wi-fi service, under the aegis of Rail Tel Corporation of India (RCIL).

Major railway stations provided with the facility include Nanded, Parbhani, Aurangabad, Nagarsol, Jalna, Purna, Adilabad and Mudkhed stations, Daulatabad, Hingoli, Kinwat, Rotegaon etc. The public wi-fi is free for use by the public situated in the surrounding areas also along with rail travellers, railway officials said.

Simple process

The process of registration is simple with a one-time password to be generated through the mobile to directly access the Internet. The Internet speed is unrestricted for the first 30 minutes in a day per user and thereafter the speed falls back to 2 mbps to allow other users to connect and experience high-speed browsing.

While majority of the users are in 19 to 34 age group, efforts to help older and first-time users of the Internet with on-ground support staff has helped millions of users experience the Internet for the first time.

Over 35% of users on the network are said to be first time wi-fi users. Over 50% of users access the Internet multiple times in a day, highlighting regular usage by users who work on pursuing their occupation from the railway stations, they added.
