The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) suffered another major jolt in Telangana as its polit bureau member and former MP Nama Nageswara Rao announced his decision to quit the party.

The development assumes significance in the light of reports that Mr. Nageswara Rao has been planning to switch loyalty to Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS ) and is aspiring to contest from Khammam Lok Sabha seat on behalf of the ruling party.

‘Futile efforts’

In a letter addressed to TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu, Mr. Nageswara Rao recalled the efforts made by Mr. Naidu and himself for rejuvenating the TDP in Telangana which, however, did not bear fruit.

“With questions being raised over the survival of TDP in Telangana, I have decided to quit from the post of the polit bureau member as well as the primary membership of the party,” Mr. Nageswara Rao said in his letter.
