May 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Thousands of low-wage workers in Ranga Reddy district employed under the MNREG Scheme finally received their dues after a private bank decided to disburse the pending amount. A few months ago, The Hindu had highlighted the issue in one of these columns based on information obtained through RTI queries.

When the article was published in January this year, C. Chandrakanth, Project Director, District Water Management Agency had lodged a complaint with a local police station against Axis Bank for failing to disburse more than Rs.1.5 crore that had to be paid as wages to workers.

The bank, some weeks ago, handed over the entire amount. The amount is being disbursed in the form of 30,000 transactions which were pending as a result of the dispute which went on for more than one year.
