Works on the much talked about phase II of the Multi-Modal Transport System (MMTS) of the South Central Railway will soon take off what with internal issues in the private consortium that won the approximately Rs. 860-crore bid for the project, close to being resolved, said SCR General Manager P.K. Srivastava.
The Rail Vikas Nigam had earlier last year finalised the bids and selected the consortium with Belfour Beatty and Kalindee Nirman as the main partners but then the former had withdrawn from the joint venture, resulting in delays. The project includes quadrupling and electrification of Moulali-Ghatkesar section (14 km) and doubling of Moulali-Sanatnagar stretch (23 km) and Falaknuma-Umdanagar (14 km) stretches.
With a new partner close to being finalised, works on the project that includes a rail link between Umdanagar and the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport at Shamshabad would also be taken up soon, making Hyderabad the first city with rail connectivity to the airport, Mr. Srivastava said, adding that 2.5 km of the total of 6.5 km track length passes on the airport land.
