MMTS phase 2 work under way

The Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) undertaking the phase two construction of the MMTS is negotiating with the Defence Ministry in New Delhi for acquiring necessary land on the Sanatnagar-Moula Ali section for the project.

This was informed by RVNL Project Manager P. Srinivas to the South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Ravindra Gupta on Friday during a presentation at Rail Nilayam on the works taken by RVNL and its progress so far. Construction is on at five stretches.

Eleven of the 16 major bridges, electrification of the Secunderabad-Bolarum existing double line and track doubling of Bolarum-Medchal stretch are under progress in the MMTS phase II project. Construction is also apace on the Falaknuma-Umdanagar section. Forty six of the 133 minor bridges were completed under different sections so far.

Targets were set to complete the project in all aspects in a phased manner for the phase two works covering a length of 103 km and at a total cost of Rs. 819 crore. Existing double line, Moula Ali-Ghatkesar (14 km) stretch, and an additional two rail lines are being added to facilitate handling of MMTS train movements, he said.

Moula Ali-Sanathnagar section of 23 km, presently a single line and serving goods rails movement, is also being doubled and this too moves through the defence land.

Mr. Gupta assured of total cooperation and called for timely commissioning of the project as it not only helps decongest Hyderabad but would also contribute to the urban development of the capital region. Mr. Srinivas also explained about status of work on the Wadi – Raichur – Guntakal electrification, Hospet – Guntakal electrification, Rail Bogie Karkhana, Yadgir, etc. Additional GM Umesh Singh and Chief Operations Manager J.N. Jha were also present.
