Mental health experts on Friday said that the country needs infrastructure upgrade In India, estimates suggest that there are close to four crore persons with severe mental disorders, but there are just 25,000 beds in mental health institutions , private psychiatric, nursing homes and psychiatric wards in general hospitals.

To mark World Mental Health Day, which falls on October 10, experts in a meeting organised by ASHA Hospitals lamented that the condition of State-run institutions is appalling.
