A driver doused himself with petrol and set ablaze at the Banjara Hills police station gate on Wednesday afternoon.

Satish, a resident of Beeramguda, was anguished that his father-in-law Manoj Kumar recently approached the police to lodge a complaint against his elder brother Sai Kumar and their parents, said Banjara Hills inspector K. Srinivas.

“Mr. Kumar told us that Satish’s parents and brother were harassing his daughter, who married the former one-and-half-year ago,” he said. On Wednesday morning, Mr. Kumar asked Satish to come to the police station, following which he reached the place by around 12.30 p.m. and suddenly poured petrol on himself outside, Mr Srinivas said.

A few police personnel and passers-by rushed to put off the fire and took him to a corporate hospital in Banjara Hills and from there he was taken to another corporate hospital at Kanchanbagh. “He suffered more than 70 % burn injuries and is battling for life,” said DCP (West) AR Srinivas.
