A passenger arriving from Dubai was taken into custody after authorities found high quality fake currency notes of Rs. 1,000 and Rs. 500 denomination, at the Rajiv Gandhi Internatinoal Airport (RGIA) on Friday morning.
The passenger, whose name was not revealed, hails from Andhra Pradesh and had made several trips to Dubai in the past to smuggle the Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN), officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) said in a statement.
They said the passenger hid the fake notes in a false bottom of his suitcase. The face value of the seized currency was stated to be Rs 45.57 lakh.
