A person posing himself as assistant director with renowned Telugu film directors was arrested by the Cyber Crime police of Hyderabad for luring aspiring artistes by promising them a bright future in cinema.

The accused, V. Hanumanth Reddy alias Sanjay, a native of Warangal cheated several people after placing advertisements on online portals seeking candidates for roles in upcoming movies and collected money from them, said DCP (DD) Avinash Mohanty.

Reddy was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by filmmaker Shekhar Kammula last month, stating that he did not post any advertisement and one Pradeep, an aspiring actor, approached him after he was cheated by Reddy.

In the complaint Mr Kammula stated that the accused featured an advertisement of him and the actor Vijay Devarakonda on an online job portal requesting for female actors for his new film.

Further, the accused lured Pradeep by offering him a role in the film and asked him to deposit ₹ 1,500 in his bank account, claiming to be assistant director with Shekar Kammula.
