Irrigation Minister T. Harish Rao said the wholesale onion market located at Malakpet will be shifted to Patancheru.
After inaugurating the market yard building established at Patancheru on Monday Mr. Harish Rao said this would be the best place for wholesale market as outer ring road (ORR) can be accessed easily to transport the onions to other places. He along with Roads and Buildings Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao and Lok Sabha member Kotha Prabhakar Reddyhas also laid foundation stone for the construction of about 30 shutters at an estimated cost of ₹1.3 crore.
He said the government had allotted 14 acres of land valued at ₹100 crore for the market yard to benefit the farmers.
“There were no market yards during the Congress rule at Patancheru and Narayanakhed. After coming to power our government realised the dream of many and constructed these two market yards. Godowns were established at each mandal and paddy valued at ₹5,500 crore was procured from the farmers,” said Mr. Harish Rao, who is also Marketing Minister.
He said eight market yards were established at a cost of ₹60 crore in the State. The Minister said the toll tax was cancelled by Mr. Nageswara Rao in addition to developing the road at a cost of ₹50 crore.
Earlier in the day, they inaugurated two newly-constructed bridges, MPDO office, the camp office of Patanchearu MLA. Mr. Harish also addressed the candidates who were undergoing training police constable recruitment at a private engineering college being organised by MLA Gudem Mahipal Reddy. About 350 students are being trained here free-of-cost.
