Except for extension of load reliefs by half an hour at a few locations, major part of the city was free from the impact of the breakdown of 220-KV Kothagudem to Budimpadu line in Khammam district on Friday.
Authorities from the Metro Zone of CPDCL have informed that the city has so far been able to manage its loads effectively without resorting to additional power cuts.
“The total shortage due to the breakdown was to the extent of 400 Megawatts. We have been told that we may have to reduce the loads by 40 to 50 Megawatts in the city, while for Ranga Reddy Zone, it was upto 100 megawatts. However, so far we have not been affected by the shortage, as the demand remained within the manageable levels,” a highly placed official from Metro Zone said.
Load reliefs of about two hours are already being imposed on the city and surrounding areas for the past two days, and there were no additional power cuts, he informed. On Friday, a few areas in Secunderabad such as R.P.Nilayam, Nehru Nagar, Marredpally, and Lallaguda were given rotational load reliefs of half an hour each between 7 p.m. and 11 p.m., he said. It was feared that areas within the limits of substations drawing from the Shahpurnagar 220-KV line would be affected due to the collapse of five towers in the Kothagudem-Budimpadu line.
