LPG storage capacity to go up

National oil marketing company BPCL is increasing LPG storage capacity at its bottling plant in Cherlapally, on the city outskirts.

State Head LPG (AP and Telangana) S. Dhanapal said work to expand the capacity by 1,200 tonnes is under way and expected to be completed in early 2019. At present, the bulk LPG storage capacity is around 1,900 tonnes or enough to meet the market demand for three days. Post expansion, the storage would take care of five days demand.

The Cherlapally plant is only such for BPCL in Telangana and caters to around 22 lakh customers across the State through a network of around 185 distributors. The facility is equipped with two carousels and operates four shifts daily.

Enhanced storage would help the company during the times of disruption in bulk LPG supplies – the bottling plant is fed by a pipeline, he said.
