The Bharatiya Janata Party’s Telangana unit has once again accused the TRS Government of having double standards in demanding celebrating the Hyderabad liberation day during the separate State agitation and giving it up after coming to power because of ‘pressure’ from Majlis Party.
“It is a matter of shame and regret that the TRS has consistently refused to celebrate the day insulting the Telangana people and their self-respect. Is it necessary to stoop so low and join hands with the successors of Razakkars for the sake of votes,” wondered party chief K. Laxman on Monday.
The BJP leader was addressing partymen after hoisting the national flag inside the State party office to commemorate the Liberation Day when the Indian Army ensured the Nizam and his troops surrendered. Contesting the communal angle to the celebrations, he sought to remind that the struggle against the Nizam’s atrocities was taken up irrespective of caste, creed or religion.
He urged the people to teach a lesson to the TRS party when its candidates come to seek votes in the forthcoming elections and vote for BJP as it is the only party which has assured to make the celebrations ‘official’ if it is voted to power as a lasting tribute to the lives lost during the struggle and to Sardar Patel who played a decisive role during that time.
His colleague G. Kishan Reddy too spoke on the same tone and accused Congress, Telugu Desam and TRS of practising ‘opportunistic & vote bank politics’ where the Majlis calls the shots as far as liberation day celebrations go. The BJP would ensure the event is celebrated in every village, school and government offices if it comes to power.
Former Union Minister Bandaru Dattatreya said Sept,17 is a ‘historic day’ being celebrated in Karnataka and Maharastra but TRS Government has been refusing to do so going back on its resolve doing the same mistake as that of Congress and TD when in power. MLC N. Ramachandra Rao, national secretary Satya Kumar and others also spoke.
The party leaders also celebrated Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday by cutting a cake.
