Rich tributes were paid to K. Jayashankar, who espoused the cause of separate Telangana for decades, on his eight death anniversary on Friday.

Former Deputy Chief Minister K. Srihari said it was Jayashankar who spread the importance of a separate State until his last breath and would be remembered forever for his contribution to the Telangana movement.

“The inauguration of Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project (KLIP), the largest lift irrigation scheme in the world, is a fitting tribute to Jayashankar,” Mr. Srihari said. Kakatiya Urban Development Authority (KUDA) Chairman Marri Yadava Reddy and Vikalangula Cooperative Corporation Chairman K. Vasudeva Reddy also paid rich tributes to Jayashankar.

People from different walks of life and academics gathered at Ekasila Park to pay tributes to the late Jayashankar. They recalled their fond memories with him. Floral tributes were paid to his statue. Mr. Srihari added that as promised, Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao would fulfil all the dreams of Jayashankar and the people of Telangana. The KLIP is the brainchild of KCR, aimed at irrigating parched land of Telangana. It is a big boon to the farmers of the State, he said.

Warangal West MLA Vinay Bhaskar said under KCR’s leadership, Telangana was making rapid strides on all fronts, particularly in irrigation.
