A criminal case was registered on Thursday against Kanwaljit Singh, former India A off-spinner and presently Director of Hyderabad Cricket Academy, by the Begumpet police following an alleged scuffle he had with Virender Yadav, brother of BCCI vice-president Shivlal Yadav two days ago.
According to Begumpet Inspector B. Srihari, Virender Yadav, an advocate, lodged a complaint stating that Kanwaljit had attacked him resulting in minor injuries when he went to Gymkhana ground two days ago.
The advocate maintained that he had gone there to find out why his son Anirudh Yadav, a tennis player, was prevented by Kanwaljit Singh from practicing at the ground.
“Virender Yadav stated that Kanwaljit inflicted minor injuries by trying to throttle him in a fit of rage,” the Inspector said.
The lawyer was sent to hospital to ascertain nature of injuries.
A case under sections 323 (assault) 506 (criminal intimidation) and 341 (wrongful restraint) of Indian Penal Code was registered.
In a letter addressed to the president of Hyderabad Cricket Association G. Vinod, the advocate representing Ranga Reddy District Cricket Association affiliated to the HCA, stated that he faced breathing problems following the attack by Kanwaljit Singh and sought action against the latter.
HCA officials refused to comment on the issue stating that the HCA president would respond on the matter after ascertaining facts.
Kanwaljit, however, denied all this in his explanation to the HCA top bosses and stated that he was polite during the conversation with Virender Yadav and it was Yadav who got wild and assaulted him.
