Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) chairman M. Kodandaram has demanded that the authorities provide jobs to locals in Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) depots.

Interacting with farmers from Uppal whose lands had been acquired for the HMR project, he said that many families were in financial doldrums after their land tracts were taken away by the authorities for the project.

The affected farmers and their families took out a huge rally and staged a demonstration at the Metro Rail depot in Uppal, demanding justice.

Mr. Kodandaram urged the authorities to ensure jobs to the affected families, besides paying adequate compensation.

He also asked officials not to acquire additional land in the name of constructing shopping complexes abutting the Metro Rail station premises. Meanwhile, the families have decided to organise a big demonstration at Uppal Crossroads on January 31 seeking justice.
