The Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind has demanded a minority sub-plan on the lines of the one developed for SCs and STs and utilisation of 20 per cent of the area development funds of MPs, MLAs and MLCs in the Muslim dominated areas.

These are among the list of 12 demands put forward by the Jamiat to the TPCC president, Ponnala Lakshmiah. At a meeting here on Thursday, Jamiat State president and Congress MLC Hafiz Peer Shabbir Ahmed presented a memorandum listing the demands. About 150 ulemas and district presidents of the Jamiat were present on the occasion.

Mr. Ahmed said the Jamiat would extend support to secular parties which promise not to support the NDA after the election. The Jamiat would hold discussion among its members and soon declare which parties it would be supporting in the coming elections.

The other demands of the Jamiat include continuation of 4 per cent reservation to Muslims in employment and education and the government of Telangana should take the responsibility to fight the legal battle in the court.
