Is there a link between the ‘suicide’ of Yamjala Sridhar Reddy of Uppal — also known as ‘Uppal YSR’ — and the mysterious disappearance of the file of a murder case in which he was prime accused?
The file of the murder of M. Jagadishwar Reddy went missing from a local court nearly two years ago. Uppal YSR ended his life a few weeks ago in his house by consuming poison.
Based on a letter purportedly written by Mr. Sridhar Reddy, a history-sheeter, police had registered a case of abetment to suicide against Malkajgiri ACP Ch. Radhakishan Rao and Ramanthapur corporator M. Parameshwar Reddy.
As per sections of law invoked, the focus of the probe was on whether the ACP and the corporator were responsible for the death of Uppal YSR, an aspiring politician.
“But disappearance of the file involving the history-sheeter cannot be overlooked,” said an officer on the probe team.
Police have also learnt, that a person suspected to be behind the murder has gone missing. The person was a contract employee on the court premises and his family had gone missing.
Police are also trying to deduce who would benefit from the disappearance of the file.
Incidentally, it was the Malkajgiri ACP, who had investigated the murder case.
But, since the file went missing, the trial could not begin.
“The authorities had prepared another file based on the documents presented in a juvenile court since one of the accused was a minor, and papers in that court were found to be intact,” a police officer said.
The missing file and the whereabouts of the person believed to be behind the theft have become crucial in determining the reasons behind the history-sheeter’s suicide. Sources in the Cyberabad police said the probe was nearing completion and action would be initiated based on the findings.
