The State Government has asked agriculture insurance companies to settle all claims of 2016-17 kharif and rabi seasons by October 20. It also instructed the insurance companies to provide district-wise crop insurance details of 2017-18 kharif in view of the Assembly session later this month.

At a meeting with insurance companies held here on Tuesday, Agriculture Production Commissioner C. Parthasarathi said out of ₹154.36 crore claims, the insurance companies had released only ₹100 crore to bank branches concerned where the insured farmers had their accounts.

The insurance companies agreed to release the balance amount of claims and attributed the delay to want of Central Government’s approvals. On the settlement of claims for 2016-17 rabi, the insurance companies explained that the Centre had released only 60% of its share in the premium subsidy and the remainder was yet to be released. They also agreed to provide the details of village-wise claims by October 22. Officials of NAIC said ₹ 63.52 crore was released to the banks for settlement of claims for 2014-15 rabi season.
