IJU expresses shock over killing of journalists

October 06, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:36 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Expressing shock at the killing of Hemant Yadav, by unidentified gunmen at Dheena in Chandauli district of Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, the Indian Journalists’ Union (IJU) has urged the Press Council of India to take steps spurring State governments to bring the killers to book and ensure that deterrent punishment is meted out to them.

In a press release here on Monday, IJU president S.N. Sinha, secretary-general Amar Devulapalli and Press Council members K. Amarnath and Prabhat Dash expressed their dismay over the murder of three journalists in Uttar Pradesh and another in Madhya Pradesh over the past four months.

“We urge editors and working journalists to come together and launch a powerful campaign demanding a special law to project journalists from physical attacks,” they said.
