After the swanky new Chief Minister’s camp office, it is now the turn of the bureaucrats to have their own brand new modern club on the busy Begumpet road.
The IAS Officers’ Association, which was forced to part with their traditional office-cum- club land to make way for Chief Minister K.Chandrasekhar Rao’s new and sprawling office-meeting-residence building last year, would soon be having a new premises on a three acre plot at a stone’s throw.
GHMC had already cleared the building plan and tenders were to be finalised soon for rest of work to begin, official sources said, pleading anonymity.
Swimming pool construction for the new four storied club with lawns and all the amenities has already begun adjacent to the Manjeera Guest House. While the overall cost is estimated to be about ₹10 crore, ₹6.5 crore is to be spent on the first phase of works.
In fact, there was much heartburn among the IAS Officers when the club land was taken away after cancelling the 33-year lease for the new CM’s Camp Office, as it was a popular place for serving and retired bureaucrats to wind down with an old world charm and lot of open space.
It had all the facilities to host parties, events and weddings besides having tennis and badminton courts, guest rooms and a swimming pool. The CM had then assured the Association that he would build a “five star” club nearby. The new premises coming up would be having sports arena including badminton courts and banquet hall.
