Fifty persons of a commercial complex-cum-apartment building at Hyderguda in heart of the city had a miraculous escape when an office on the first floor caught fire early on Wednesday morning.

Fire fighters from the T.S. Disaster Response & Fire Services Department rushed to quell the fire and rescued the inmates of the third, fourth and fifth floor after ushering them onto the terrace.

With only one internal staircase in the building, which is located bang opposite the Apollo Hospitals, the fire fighters had to struggle to rescue the residents and a Bronto sky lift was used to help the persons trapped in the building as a dense smoke enveloped the entire building within no time, according to senior officials of the Fire Department.

One person dead

In a separate and unrelated incident, one person died when a car caught fire on the Outer Ring Raod at Ghatkesar.

Further details are awaited.
