The State government is leaving no stone unturned to complete the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation project from the river Godavari before 2018 by removing all hurdles for the execution of the project.
Chief Secretary S. P. Singh, Director-General of Police Anurag Sharma, irrigation officials and others conducted an aerial survey of the project on Wednesday from Medigadda project site, Kannepalli pump house of Mahadevpur mandal in Jayashankar–Bhupalapalli district, Annaram and Sundilla barrage sites.
They landed at Dharmaram mandal in Peddapalli mandal and inspected the Nandimedaram tank and underground pump house and tunnel works.
Land acquisition
The CS and DGP along with the irrigation officials also inspected the project pump house and underground tunnel works in Laxmipur and Venkatraopalli villages of Ramadugu mandal in Karimnagar district. They directed the officials for the early completion of the project and assured to solve all the problems pertaining to land acquisition.
The capacity of the pump house at Nandimedaram has been increased from 0.18 tmcs to 0.77 tmcs. As the construction of barrage at the Medigadda as likely to be delayed, the irrigation authorities have planned to lift the water from the river through the Kannepalli pump house to Annaram and Sundilla barrages and later lift the water into the Sripada Yellampalli project and into the Mid Manair Dam.
No inflows
Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao laid foundation stone for the Kaleshwaram project at Medigadda of Mahadevpur mandal on May 2, 2016. He had said that the pump house to lift the water from the river Godavari would be completed within 16 months before the construction of barrage across the river.
The Kaleshwaram project is designed to provide irrigation to 18.19 lakh acres in the state and also stabilize the SRSP ayacut, which had stopped receiving inflows following the construction of Babali and other projects in Maharashtra.
