Hundreds of young men, women and children wearing blue T-shirts took part in the ‘Run for Caste Free India’ on Friday morning, which was flagged off from the People’s Plaza on Necklace Road.

“We are humans. There should be no consideration of caste. That was the idea and ideal of Dr. B.R Ambedkar whose birthday we are celebrating today. He strove and thought for a caste-less society. The best tribute to him would be to demolish the caste system,” said Mahender Reddy, Hyderabad Police Commissioner.

Amidst frequent shouts of ‘Jai Bhim,’ various speakers, including Mayor Bonthu Ram Mohan, targeted the caste system and how it was the bane of Indian society.

This was the sixth edition of the run organised by the Dalit Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Shanti Chakra International.
