Hyderabad Metro Rail (HMR) authorities are giving finishing touches to the stations and other works to open the 10 km Ameerpet-HiTec City route within the next “few days” but there will be no grand ceremony.
The flag-off will be done in a “simple business-like manner sans any fanfare” in view of the model code of conduct for the general elections, according to an official statement on Friday.
CMRS permission
It said the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) has given permission for commercial operations to begin after taking up several checks recently. This was preceded by trial runs for about four months from November last year after construction was completed.
The statement stated that once operational, the metro rail service will come as a huge relief to scores of people working in IT/ITES and other firms located at Madhapur, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, HiTec City and its environs in view of the heavy traffic they have to encounter every day on the roads.
Elevated stations
Elevated metro stations are located at Madhuranagar, Yousufguda, Jubilee Hils Road No.5, Jubilee Hills Check Post, Peddamma Gudi, Madhapur, Durgam Cheruvu and HiTec City. When the metro trains run to and from HiTec City, HMR will be operating across two corridors — L.B.Nagar to Miyapur of 29 km or Corridor One and Nagole to HiTec City of 27 km or Corridor Three.
With that, it will operate across 56 km in total of the targeted 66-km route minus the Old City route from MGBS (Imlibun) to Falaknuma (about 6 km). Corridor Two is now being constructed across Jubilee Bus Station to MGBS of 9 km.
