Help at hand

June 05, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:39 am IST - Hyderabad:

Imagine railway personnel standing by at the next station to attend to a problem you have on board the train. Well, it's possible now, with the launch of a new mobile application of the South Central Railway.

Once installed on the commuter's smartphone, RISSTA (Railway Interactive Security Solution for Traveller Assistance) would work even without an internet connection or a GPS facility.

On encountering a security or like problem, the passenger can press the 'HELP' button on the app, sending out an SMS to the Railway Protection Force Control Room.

The alert would help security personnel zero in on the commuter's train and the time of its arrival at the next station, where they could attend to the issue, said Senior Divisional Security Commissioner Sumathi Shandilya.
