Accused happens to be victim’s relative

A helmetless teenager riding triple on a bike was killed after a tractor collided with his two-wheeler in Bachupally here on Friday evening.

The victim, V. Chandrashekar, 18, from Sri Sai Nagar was going out with his friends, Shiva and Murali when the accident took place around 7.30 p.m.

He died while being shifted to Gandhi Hospital from a private hospital in the area, while Chandrashekar’s friends are battling for life, Bachupally police said.

Fatal injuries

“The tractor driver failed to notice the bike coming in the opposite direction and rammed it, as a result, the victim fell on the ground and suffered fatal injuries,” sub-inspector Mohammed Yousuf said.

The accused tractor driver -- G. Chandu, 24, from Rajiv Gruhakalpa, happens to be the relative of the victim, police said.

Habsiguda accident

In another accident, an 87-year-old pedestrian returning home after collecting his pension was fatally knocked down by a ‘speeding’ pick-up van in Habsiguda on Saturday morning. The victim, Ramishetty Raghavaiah, a retired railway employee from Kakatiya Nagar in Habsiguda, was trying to cross the road near Indian Oil Petrol Pump when the accused van driver mowed him down. “After collecting his pension from State Bank of India in Nagendra Nagar, the victim was on his way back home, when the accident took place at around 11.50 a.m.,” the Osmania University police said. A case was registered against the van driver and Raghavaiah’s body was shifted to Osmania General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
