The process of shifting patients from the century-old in-patient block of Osmania General Hospital (OGH) here would start from Wednesday following orders from the Health officials to immediately shift all departments from there. However, this won’t the first time that attempts will be made to vacate the in-patient block.

Stiff opposition

Earlier, when officials wanted to shift the patients to Modern Government Maternity Hospital, Petlaburj, and other hospitals, the doctors there and those at OGH opposed the move. They contended that OGH being a tertiary care hospital, all medical departments have to be in one place for the convenience of patients.

However, some wards from the in-patient block were shifted from second floor of the building and patients were shifted to other parts of the hospital.

Currently, there are over 580 patients admitted in various departments ofi the hospital, ncluding orthopedics and gastroenterology.

Stop-gap arrangement

OGH superintendent B. Nagender said they have received the orders and that patients from the in-patient block will either be accommodated in Quli Qutb Shah block of the hospital, or at the Maternity Hospital in Petlaburj.

Though construction of a pre-fabricated structure on terrace of the Quli Qutb Shah block are ongoing, it would take over a month before it is ready for occupation.
