The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau Director General to randomly check some more villages to ascertain if Swachh Bharat funds meant for constructing Shouchalayas (toilets) were misused.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Thottathil B. Radhakrishnan and Justice S.V. Bhatt, gave the direction after taking up a letter written by a citizen as PIL petition. Earlier, it directed the ACB DG and the member secretary of Telangana State Legal Services Authority to verify facts over the alleged misappropriation of funds cited in the letter.
After perusing the reports of the two institutions, the bench said both had confirmed misuse of funds.
Plastic use
Hearing a PIL petition on pollution caused by usage of plastic covers at temples, the bench said only a total ban of all plastic covers at temples would solve the problem to some extent. No use in permitting thick plastic covers with more micron strength, the bench observed.
The bench had gone through a report presented by Warangal district judge on the facilities provided to devotees at temples in the district. The CJ recalled that usage of plastic in all forms was stopped at Sabarimala temple in Kerala.
Child sex racket
The bench sought to know from the Special Investigation Team of Rachakonda commissionerate how long it would take to complete investigation and file charge-sheet in the child prostitution racket of Yadadri. The matter was posted to next Tuesday.
