‘Have contingency plan to tackle emergencies'

February 22, 2012 09:06 am | Updated 09:06 am IST - HYDERABAD:

While senior officials were closeted with union leaders to prevent further strikes in the sanitation, Mayor Majid Hussain has called upon them to have a contingency plan in place to tackle such emergencies.

It would be better to plan for such breakdowns rather than let the whole city suffer, he observed at a press conference on Tuesday.

Complaints

The Mayor did a late night tour of transport sections and some of the garbage piled up areas especially near the temples following complaints received. Mr. Hussain saw a dire need for improvement of the working conditions for the staff at the garbage transfer stations as well as transport depots like toilets and other facilities to prevent health hazards.

Recruitment

Six assistant engineers are to be recruited for the transfer stations and parking yards.

The Mayor also wanted the existing vehicles to be repaired and either go for new purchases or hire new vehicles considering the current condition of the transport fleet.
