Haj ‘qurrah’ to be held today

The A.P. State Haj Committee will conduct ‘qurrah’ (draw of lots) on Tuesday to select 5,977 pilgrims for Haj 2013. The district wise computerised qurrah will be held at 12 noon at the Haj House here. Andhra Pradesh has a quota of 7,322 pilgrims. Of them 1,345 have already been selected under reserved categories and the qurrah will be held for the remaining applicants. There are a total of 15,616 applicants this year.

The district wise quota of pilgrims is: Adilabad (206), Anantapur (338), Chittoor (298), Kadapa (336), East Godavari (61), Guntur (424), Hyderabad (1,370), Karimnagar (186), Khammam (120), Krishna (231), Kurnool (498), Mahbubnagar (258), Medak (258), Nalgonda (148), Nellore (204), Nizamabad (295), Prakasam (124), Rangareddy (354), Srikakulam (0), Visakhapatnam (62), Vizianagaram (7), Warangal (153) and West Godavari (46).

Qurrah will not be conducted to the five districts of Nellore, Prakasam, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram and West Godavari since the number of applications received are less than the quota, said Abdul Hameed, executive officer, Haj Committee.
