Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration, Arvind Kumar on Friday issued orders constituting a high-level committee to suggest modalities and roadmap for implementation of QR code-based digital door numbering in Hyderabad and rest of the State.
The committee has been asked to submit its report by 30th of this month.
The committee consists of GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar, DMA T.K. Sreedevi, TSTS Managing Director G.T. Venkateshwar Rao, GHMC Additional Commissioner (IT) Musharraf Faruqui, Chief City Planner S. Devender Reddy, GHMC Director-Planning K. Srinivas Rao, Director-Planning (MA&UD) S. Balakrishna, OU Computer Science’s Prof. P.V. Sudha, ASCI technology advisor Subrahmanyam Yadavalli, Technology, Outer Ring Road PD B. Harinath Reddy and NIUM senior knowledge manager D. Gowthami.
Mr. Kumar said that the committee would study the Digital Door Numbering (DDN) taken up at other cities such as New Delhi, Bengaluru and Vijayawada to understand the implementation challenges, costs and timelines. The committee would also suggest how to integrate DDN with property tax, town planning and sanitation, so that all the information can be captured through QR code system. The various technologies available in the field along with preparing a roadmap including timelines and costing for carrying it out in Telangana and Hyderabad would be looked into by the committee.
Convenience factor
The secretary observed that the digital door numbering to be taken up would be convenient for the public as well as improving the sanitation in the cities as the door numbering here and in other cities has, over the years become extremely complex without any scientific basis.
“We need revised door number system as it simplifies the door numbering on a scientific basis. It’s not only easier to locate the house / property by looking at the number, but also integrates sanitation and town planning on QR code-based system to ensure sanitation is carried out regularly,” he said.
